Dental Bridges Fayetteville
Bridge the Gap with a Strong Dental Restoration
If a missing tooth is making you feel self conscious about your appearance, or causing discomfort while you chew or speak, consider dental bridge work. A restorative dentistry option, dental bridges replace missing teeth and fill uncomfortable gaps. Dental bridges, placed at Dr. Dave C. Lee’s Fayetteville practice, are used to create a smile that looks, feels, and functions naturally. Learn more about dental bridges, and contact our dental office to schedule an appointment with Dr. Lee and his team.
About Dental Bridges
Dental bridges are composed of artificial teeth that are supported by crowns that fit onto the tooth on either side of the gap. The surrounding teeth can be natural, artificial, or supported by dental implants. (We recommend implant-supported bridges for suitable candidates, as they are the most permanent tooth replacement option.) To place a dental bridge, Dr. Lee places an artificial tooth, flanked by two crowns, in the gap; the crowns are secured to the teeth on either side of the gap. If there are existing teeth on only one side of the gap, Dr. Lee will use a certain type of dental bridge. Dental bridges suit individuals who are missing only a few teeth and whose remaining teeth are healthy.
If you are embarrassed or uncomfortable because of a gap between teeth, contact Dr. Lee to discuss dental bridges at his Fayetteville office.
Benefits of Dental Bridges
Dental bridges restore both beauty and functionality to teeth that have been affected by gaps. Here are some other benefits of dental bridges:
- Long-lasting
- Cost-effective
- Natural-looking
- Prevent health problems that can stem from gaps between the teeth (including periodontal disease, TMJ disorders, bone loss, and bite problems)
Types of Dental Bridges
There are several types of dental bridges; the type of bridge Dr. Lee recommends depends on the location of the gap in the mouth. Traditional and cantilever bridges (which are composed of bridgework and supporting dental crowns) are used when there is a natural tooth on either side of the gap (traditional), or on just one side (cantilever). A third type of bridge, the Maryland bonded bridge (which is composed of porcelain teeth and gums supported by a framework) is used when there is all natural tooth structure available, and minimal tooth preparation is necessary to support the bridge.
